In the winter of 1995, I rode by horse across Northern Senegal to Mali, West Africa. My horse was a local barb that I’d bought in a market from a Mauritanian herdsman. I named my white horse, “Léo Lawal”, meaning “moonlight” in the fulani language. He carried me faithfully along the Senegal River, across the Sahel.
In 2000, I had an exhibit of my paintings, with excerpts from my travel journals, titled, “Journey by Horse.”.
